- Abstract
The article discusses the work of the African American poet Anne Spencer, with particular attention paid to her use of the white poetic tradition and her relationship to white modernist poetry as well as to her fellow Harlem Renaissance artists. Her poems including "Before the Feast at Shushan," "The Lemming: O Sweden," and "At the Carnival" are also examined and critiqued.
