- Abstract
The book "Transcending Boundaries: The Dervishes" by Cem Kara explores the cultural relations of the Bektashi Dervish Order beyond the borders of the Ottoman Empire and early Republic of Turkey. The author examines the mutual perception and cultural exchange of the Bektashis with other religious cultures, particularly with Western cultures. The book is based on extensive research and utilizes both Ottoman/Turkish and European sources. It offers a multifaceted analysis of the cultural relations of the Bektashi Order and sheds light on the role and significance of the Bektashis in Ottoman society. The work investigates the cultural relations of the Bektashi Order between 1826 and 1925 and analyzes various types of cultural contacts and their changes over time.
