- Title
Evolution: Young genes are essential too.
- Authors
Flintoft, Louisa
- Abstract
The article presents two studies which analyze Drosophila melanogaster to determine the important roles of young genes on the developmental processes of an organism. It mentions on a study of Chen and colleagues which reveals the vital functions of new genes during larval and pupal development and suggests that the young genes undergo mutation and selection. It also notes on a study of Ding and colleagues which shows that new duplicate genes manifest roles in adaptive evolution.
