- Abstract
The article focuses on the correlates of perceptual field orientation in alcoholics. Chronic alcoholics frequently have been reported to be perceptually field dependent. The present investigation investigated further the role of cognitive and intellectual factors in perceptual field orientation. In view of the capacity of field orientation measures to discriminate patients who persevere in and respond to psychotherapy from those who either drop out or do not benefit from didactic psychotherapy, the determination of those cognitive components that contribute to perceptual dependency may improve and facilitate the selection of candidates for specific modes of treatment.
