- Abstract
This article presents the evolution on the views on cardiovascular system. The first known presentation of the heart comes from the Spanish cave of El Pindal. The rock drawing shows a mammoth heart. Views on the role of the heart and vascular system have evolved. The first description of the death by heart failure is found in the “Epic of Gilgamesh”, the epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia. The ancient Egyptians created the concept of a heart that plays a role as the seat of understanding and morality, but also as the center from which the blood vessels diverged. They examined the heart by analyzing the heart rate. Here, we have presented these early views on the role of cardiovascular system.
