- Abstract
Violence against women acts as a risk factor and etiological factor in the development of pathologies, especially psychiatric disorders. The aim of this article is to identify and qualitatively describe how gender-based violence has harmed the health of five women. The study consisted of a descriptive and comparative approach to the victims' narratives about the episodes of violence experienced, as well as the signs, symptoms, and health condition presented after the assaults suffered. It was identified that violence against women negatively influenced the health of the interviewed volunteers, through direct and indirect associations in the development of diseases. The interviewees manifested acute and chronic injuries, with emphasis on depressive and anxious disorders. Therefore, it was concluded that addressing violence against women should be understood as a measure for disease prevention, health promotion, and quality of life.
