- Abstract
Longshore Drift or bypass littoral, important process of sediment transport along the coastal regions around the world, has special configuration in Ceará State, Northeastern Brazil, because the sequence of various rock formations called points or coastal headlands. These areas, especially important to navigation and fishing, because of the security against the waves they offer, are in a constant state of change due to human action and development. Thus, it was proposed to extend the looks to meet the conflict between the natural dynamics and intensification of human activities in these areas. To this goal, we used a literature and cartographic research about natural resources, and the use of remote sensing tools and interpretation of results of previous field work. The present study found that the installation of the Pecém Port Terminal has intensely modified the sedimentation processes resulting from the coastal drift current, while the Mucuripe Port Terminal accumulates environmental, economic, social and political problems. In this sense, it can be affirmed that the damages caused by these interventions can be felt over the last decades, threatening an important ecological and tourist factor of the state of Ceará.
