- Abstract
This article discusses the issues of production and circulation of cannabis knowledge in Morocco in a context of recent legalization (2021) of cannabis for therapeutical and industrial use. The article shows how the norms of a new legal market imply that different types of knowledge co-exist, are articulated, or confront each other in the same place, shaping two markets. It analyzes local knowledge in terms of growing and processing, which has already been strongly hybridized by internationalization and North/South circulation – especially in terms of seeds. This know-how will be confronted with new knowledge formalized under the new market. Finally, the article demonstrates the challenges of conservation and preservation of local knowledge in a legislative context where most illegal practices remain. The research is based on various surveys that have enabled us to study the production and circulation of knowledge and techniques related to cannabis and hashish over the long term, their North/South hybridization, as well as the upheavals in knowledge that have occurred in new legislative contexts.
