- Abstract
Introduction: The nutritional status of individuals with carcinoma gastrointestinal is frequently affected. For many decades there have been reports on weight loss as an important indicator for the presence of severity and evolution many diseases, as well as nutritional discoveries such as protein-calorie malnutrition. Body weight can be measured simply and accurately, and therefore, weight loss can be easily determined if the patient's weight is weighed before and after the occurrence of the loss. Objective: To describe the nutritional profile of patients with a diagnosis of gastric cancer admitted for oncological treatment in a tertiary reference hospital in the State of Maranhão. Method: This is a descriptive and retrospective study of a quantitative and documentary approach, whose data were obtained through a review of 2011 to 2016 Results: The sample consisted of 96 charts, being analyzed by weight, BMI, nutritional digest, supplementation, where category 1 and 3, caloric malnutrition and caloric and protein respect, they are more pronounced in patients with gastric cancer. Conclusion: In this research we have seen changes in weight and BMI in patients during hospitalization, which may alter the patient's response to the treatment in which he was assigned. And according to the data collection andanalysis we saw that the diagnosis of the nutritional profile of the patient, is important, for continuity and nutritional support throughout his treatment, aiming at the necessity of a nutritional intervention.
