- Abstract
This study concerns the transplantation of three species widely used in the city of Oujda as ornamentals: the carob (Ceratonia siliqua), the Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium) and Brachychiton (Brachychiton populneum). For the Carob and Bitter Orange, two modes of transplantation have been tried. The first involved a direct transplantation without subjects' preparation. For the second subjects received pruning on the same date but were uprooted and transplanted ten to eleven weeks later. Also, two periods were tested: the spring and summer seasons. For Brachychiton, transplantation was performed at three dates corresponding to the seasons: fall, winter and spring. Half of the subjects were transplanted root ball and the other bare root. The results obtained showed that the three species, according to the rate of transplanting success, withstand well transplantation and that, during all seasons tested. Also, direct transplantation and root pruning for the Bitter Orange and Carob and bare-root and balled for the Brachychiton led at similar results, taking into account transplanting success rates recorded. However, depending on the quality of recovery, better results were obtained with balled trees of Brachychiton transplanted during the fall and winter while comparable results were obtained with spring transplantations.
