- Abstract
This article discusses the advancements in seed ecology and evolutionary biology research, specifically focusing on the study of seed dormancy. The authors highlight the importance of collaboration between physiologists and ecologists in understanding the functions of seeds. They also emphasize the significance of open science and the availability of large datasets in testing hypotheses related to seed dispersal, persistence in soil seedbanks, and germination. The article presents a recent study on the diversity of seed dormancy across different biomes and addresses criticisms regarding the selection of predictors for seed dormancy and the role of fire in its evolution. The authors acknowledge the limitations of current data and call for further research and data sharing to enhance our understanding of seed ecology and evolution.
