- Abstract
Objective: To analyze times of nursing activities obtained with the Pediatric Patient Classification Instrument (PPCI) and Nursing Activities Score (NAS). Methodology: Transversal, descriptive and exploratory study performed in a pediatric surgical hospitalization unit. Data collection was performed using data from patients' charts obtained through daily visits for three fortnight. Organized data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The sample had 155 charts and the patients were predominantly boys aged 1 to 6 years, hospitalized for hepatic and gastrointestinal or genitourinary splenectomy. Regarding the PPCI, the score revealed patients requiring nursing care, predominantly at an intermediate level. Regarding NAS, the score represented the need for intensive nursing care. Conclusion: The two classification models were not equivalent in terms of the number of hours needed for care in pediatric surgical patients.
