- Abstract
The article discusses the Harmon Society, a Christian theosophy and pietist society, particularly examining secession from the group. It comments on the early days of the Society and its founding in 1805 by George Rapp, noting the migration of his followers from Germany to Harmony, Pennsylvania. The author also considers the establishment of Harmonist communities at New Harmony, Indiana and Economy, Pennsylvania. She explores a schism that occurred in 1832, noting the secession of "Leonites" who followed a religious leader known as Count Leon.
