This article focuses on the evolution of armament processes and arms control. It offers a broad perspective that encompasses arms control initiatives and international regulations throughout history, starting from the 1868 Saint Petersburg Declaration to the agreements of the post-Cold War era. A particular emphasis is placed on the processes of nuclear disarmament and control, highlighting the treaties signed between the USA and the USSR and their impacts on the nuclear balance. The importance of creating zones free from weapons of mass destruction is underlined in this process, and the challenges in the Middle East are scrutinized.
