- Abstract
Throughout the 16th century, Wallachia was visited by a number of foreign travelers, who left more or less interesting evidence for today's Romanians, depending on the attention paid by them to political and social realities in the Romanian space between the Carpathians and the Danube, at the edge of Christian, civilized Europe. In the present article we have looked into some brief accounts left by a French nobleman, Jean de Saulx, Viscount of Tavannes, after his journey around Wallachia in 1574. For this French aristocrat, going to Constantinople through Wallachia was not at all easy, as will be seen in the following article since the lords of Wallachia and Moldavia were in conflict at the time.
