The Beginnings of Pressure Dyeing.
- Authors
Pratt, Herbert T.
- Abstract
The article presents information on pressure dyeing or high temperature dyeing process. It is the process of dyeing in water at temperatures well above the normal boiling point and is usually associated with the more hydrophobic man-made textile fibers, like polyester. The original development work that led to commercial high temperature dyeing was started with wool in 1938 by Harold J. Walter, president of Uxbridge Worsted Corp. Walter J. Newcomb of Burlington Engineering Co. in Graham, North Carolina was the developer of the earliest high temperature beam dyeing machine. Jet dyeing machine for fabrics, the last major advance in high temperature dyeing equipment, was first shown to the trade at the American Textile Machinery Exhibition in Atlantic City in May 1961.
