- Abstract
To review the history is important to rescue facts and happenings which marked a profession building. The present study of historical social approach aims at knowing the nurses of Santa Catarina West historical trajectories through her narratives. Data were produced by interviews with four nurses, between 2016 and 2017. The information was analyzed using thematic form for quantitative studies. The results reveal three categories: a) first professional contact with the profession: regional challenges, professional appreciation and trajectory beginning; b) changes, motivations and building a professional identity; c) driving to nursing great practices: a constant search for knowledge. The difficulties and motivations experienced by nurses boosted the transformation of the care in nursing reality, above all, relating to the work opportunities, professional appreciation and qualification. To know the conditions and the elements which composed that history was fundamental to understand the profession reality currently and to project a new future committed to nurses qualification.
