- Abstract
At first sight, the mural's source material draws from a very English humour but alongside this, suggests Love, there is a deeper questioning of the future of Britain, the Commonwealth and the shipping lines which held it together. Samuel Love's chapter on "The English Pub" discusses a mural by Edward Bawden on the SS Oronsay, a ship used in the 1950s on the emigrant passage to Australia. Two other chapters explore how analysis of artistic approaches to transport and mobility reveal new insights for the transport historian.
