Laos turns a new chapter.
- Abstract
The article reports on the economic situation of Laos. According to the author, the economy of Laos increased by seven percent since 2006 because of foreign investments in hydroelectric power industry. Tourism and gold and copper mining industries of the country, according to the statistics of World Bank, are also showing rapid growth. Meanwhile, the sectors of garment, horticulture and timber are also showing growth. Furthermore, a chinatown will be built in Vientianne, Laos' capital. According to Laos Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, the planned chinatown is not a threat for the country's culture and values. Lastly, China Development Bank has granted loans for Suzhou Industrial Park Overseas Investment Co. for stadium construction to be used for the Southeast Asian Games.
