- Abstract
For several years now Desa Muck has been the most popular Slovenian author. Her popularity among young readers has been confirmed by the competition entitled My Favourite Book12. The author has been awarded five times in a row for her series of books about Anica. She has written 23 texts for children and youth, but achieved her most notable success with the book entitled Lažljiva Suzi (Lying Suzy), which brought her the most prestigious award for young adult literature in Slovenia, the Vecernica award in 1997. At the beginning of her career as an author for young readers, her books were intended for teenagers. With a series of books about Anica Pivnik, however, she has also managed to reach the generation of beginner readers. The popularity of this literary series saw its revival in the autumn of 2008, as the television show based on the literary series Anica was first broadcast on the Slovenian Television. She has also published two novels for adult readers, Panika (Panic) and Pješcanik boga djeteta (The Sandbox of the Child God). Desa Muck's work has been extensively translated into many languages, including Croatian, which makes her virtually the only youth literature author translated into Croatian in the last couple of years. Several books from the series about Anica have been included into obligatory reading literature. The article does not present the entire literary production of the author, but only her realistic prose fiction, since it has been translated into Croatian for the most part, and as such it is more relevant for present analysis.
