The article demonstrates significance that the Chatham's Library's ill-understood collection of ancient furniture had to architect George Shaw's practice. Topics discussed include role of salvaged carving in the creation of faked ancient furniture; Shaw engagement in forgeries; and Shaw's repeated and extensive re-use of the form and ornament from the Henry VII bed.
