- Abstract
The article explores the series of views of Rome drawn by English painter Francis Towne in Rome. It assesses that like many visiting landscape artists, Towne reached to capture the city's famously rich and intense light in his drawings. It mentions that although Towne's works on paper were studio creations and it was not uncommon for an artist to make notes on their sketches to guide their studio work. It adds that the inscription in his work have been associated with Roman series as a whole and they were applied to a distinct portion of his drawings.
