- Abstract
The article discusses the Jamaican Cohort Study that allowed larger precision in genotype diagnosis, confirming a high frequency of genes for hereditary persistence of fetal haemoglobin (HPFH), a greater prevalence of ß+ compared to ߺ thalassaemia, with 14.6% of subjects carrying genes that could give rise to babies with clinically significant haemoglobinopathy. Tables showing the distribution of haemoglobin genotypes and molecular basis of the subjects are presented.

GENOTYPES; FETAL hemoglobin; HEMOGLOBINS; GENETIC disorders; COHORT analysis
