- Abstract
Forensic odontology is a new and growing phase in advanced pediatric dentistry. This is the legal field within a dentistry that involves analysis of dental evidence to serve the interest of justice. The resilience of dental tissues remains unchanged even in extreme cold or hot weather and they are the strongest tissues in the human body. The uniqueness and individualization of dental patterns making them valuable for useful for identification if appropriate records are available for comparison. For these reasons, dental evidence remains important in forensic cases after accidents, crime, child abuse, determination of age and sex in both living and deceased pedodontist plays an important role in forensic odontology with specific areas of his/her expertise in various fields such as accidental or nonaccidental oral trauma, child abuse and neglect, age determination, dental records, and mass disasters by examination of the teeth and jaws structure, bite marks, lip and tongue prints, palatal rugae, etc. Today, forensic odontology has evolved as a separate specialty, which relies on diverse range of dental knowledge of teeth and jaws, dental anatomy, histology, radiography, pathology, dental materials, and developmental anomalies. Forensic identification is multidisciplinary teamwork that involves law enforcement officials, forensic anthropologists, forensic dentists, forensic pathologists, criminalists, serologists, and other specialists. The team helps establish diseased identity, cause of death, factors contributing to death, and time of death. This poster gives an insight into the forensic odontology aspect in pediatric patients.
