- Abstract
An interview with singer Kiran Ahluwalia is presented. When asked to talk about herself and how she became involved with the folk songs and ghazals of northern India, she said that she started music as a child in Bihar, Northern India. She carried the passion for the music even though she and her family went to live in Toronto, Ontario. She went back to India several times to study ghazal music which is done through improvisations and are performed in music festivals and concerts. She uses ancient ghazals and interprets them as a means of improvisation.
