- Abstract
The article presents a study of the role of diagnostic test-ordering behaviour of general practitioners (GPs) on pertussis epidemiology in Australia from 2000 to 2011. It states that the proportion of the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) pertussis notifications with diagnosis by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) rose from 16.3% between April 2000 and March 2004 to 65.3%. It adds that the increase in pertussis testing may led to identification of undetected infections.
