The article reports on the findings of the study concerning the adaptation and spectral tuning in divergent marine proteorhodopsins in the Mediterranean and Sargasso sea. It reveals that spectral tuning is present to various taxonomic background that independently arise from multiple lines. It indicates that the distribution of proteohordopsins differ in two locations even if their physical properties are similar.
