Horizontal gene transfer: Coordinated uptake.

- Abstract
The article discusses the research on the transformation of horizontal gene along with transduction and conjugation. The consumption of free DNA from the environment into the bacterial cytosol is a significant source of horizontal gene transfer. Gram-positive bacterium known as Bacillus subtilis is one of the 40 bacterial species that are of course able to take up DNA. The results suggest that uptake of ssDNA through transformation is organized with recombination into the bacterial chromosome.
