- Abstract
The article presents an experiment on the separation of a mixture of R-menth--4-en-3-one and (-)-menthone. A mixture of 1 and 2 was treated with a solution of Na2SO3 in 50 milliliter of water and several drops of phenolphthalein. The reaction mixture was stirred at 95 to 97 degree Celsius for one hour adding actinium until the color faded and was extracted with petroleum ether. The extract was then dried and filtered. Chromatographic analysis was performed using helium carrier gas.
