- Title
Circadian rhythms: Glia set the beat.
- Authors
Flight, Monica Hoyos
- Abstract
The article explores the study "Drosophila Ebony Activity Is Required in Glia for the Circadian Regulation of Locomotor Activity," by J. Suh and F. R. Jackson. Here, researchers demonstrate that ebony, an enzyme conjugating ß-alanine to neuromodulators, is expressed in neuroglia and acts downstream of genes regulating the circadian clock to control flies' behavioral rhythmicity. They suggest that ebony has indirect impact on locomotor activity by modulating dopamine neurotransmission.
