- Title
DR CONGO: Malnutrition Affects Millions.
- Abstract
B Food aid operations hang in the balance amid a severe funding crunch. b The Democratic Republic of the Congo is grappling with a dire humanitarian crisis fuelled by ongoing political instability and armed conflicts, severely impacting the entire food supply, the UN World Food Programme ( B WFP b ) said on August 22nd. WFP requires a total of $728m for its response efforts in eastern DRC, but a staggering funding gap of $567m - equivalent to 78% of the required funds for the next six months - threatens to hamper relief efforts. A UN statement said while WFP managed to provide food aid to some 1.2m people in July, funding has almost dried up.
