- Title
David Rhodes: Aletheia.
- Authors
Ostrow, Saul
- Abstract
David Rhodes's exhibition, titled "Aletheia," showcases his paintings that may initially appear reductive and formulaic, but upon closer examination, reveal themselves to be thought-provoking and deceptive. The paintings consist of black grounds with raw canvas bands of varying widths and lengths, arranged in different patterns. Rhodes's works challenge our understanding of the world and question our assumptions, creating optical illusions and engaging with materiality and process. His paintings draw from alternative sources of abstract art history, offering a refreshing perspective outside of the dominant Minimalist approach.
