- Abstract
The article examines the religiomythological pantheon named timang by the Benuaq of Indonesian province of East Kalimtan in the island of Borneo, which often defined in the ethnographic literature as tiger spirit. Topics include timang as spirit, as animal, and as honorific. A review of the general information and language data on tiger words in greater Barito languages, and Borneo in general for big cats, including tigre, clouded leopard and lion, is also given.
