- Abstract
Hotel rooms, airline tickets or concert tickets are services for which the dates of purchase and consumption differ over time. These services are typical of industries facing capacity constraints and for which dynamic pricing practices have developed: the price varies over time to maximise the revenue derived from each unit sold. Theoretical literature identifies the main decision factors in the determination of prices for this type of service, but these factors are sometimes difficult to quantify in practice. Not much empirical analyses have been conducted on the subject, and very few of them have examined the direction of price changes over time. This article provides some elements of answer through a descriptive analysis of the prices of the Parisian hotel industry over a yearly horizon.
