- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for assessment of control in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed iProTM2-CGM in 69 patients (age 45.6 ± 15.4 years, 40 men and 29 women), 69.5% on intensifi ed insulin regimen (39 patients on multiple injections, 9 on pump therapy), 3 on therapy with insulin mixtures, 12 on oral therapy. The diabetes control was classifi ed by glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels and special reports derived from iProTM2 recordings. RESULTS: Assessed by HbA1c, 46 patients (25 with type 1, 21 with type 2) were with bad control (HbA1c >7.0%), 23 patients (12 with type 1, 11 with type 2) were well controlled (8.98±1.11% vs. 6.31±0.66%). Signifi cant difference was found in disease duration (11.7±8.7 vs. 5.7±6.0 years, p=0.01) of both groups. There was no difference in age, body weight and type of diabetes. In goodcontrolled group, but not in bad-controlled group, there was correlation between average glucose levels and HbA1c (p<0.05). There was difference, even not signifi cant, between time-duration within limits, number of excursions, AUC above and below limits in both groups. CONCLUSION: Performing of CGM is helpful not only for therapy adjustment in diabetic patients, but also for precise assessment of glucose control revealing additional information besides single or multiple blood glucose measurement and HbA1c. In some groups it is necessary to use CGМ for profound control assessment.
