- Abstract
This article highlights some peculiarities related to the norms, rights and duties of people living in the streets of Medellín. This is a qualitative study that implemented data gathering techniques such as the ethnographic observation to get the starting information. Next, some semi-structured interviews were applied to 16 street dwellers and then analyzed in an Excel matrix to do the pertinent categorization. It is concluded that the subjects take contradictory stances regarding the norms: they adhere to punishment and authority logics even harder than those used by the society. At the same time, they feel free in their status as street dwellers, and even more when they are under effects of psychoactive substances. Some limitations are also observed for accessing to their rights, because the State fails to guarantee those rights.
