- Abstract
This article deals with the early transmission of the works of the Ch'eng brothers. It starts with a description of the activities of Hu An-kuo (1074-1138) in the first two decades of the 12th century and tries then to contextualize his efforts to collect the works of the Ch'engs in the time after the fall of K'ai-feng in 1127. By comparing the contents of the Literary Works (Wen-chi) of the Ch'engs with those of their Recorded Sayings (Yü-lu lu), the third and main part of the article shows that the publication of these two collections may be seen as a result of the conflict between the Hu-nan school founded by Hu An-kuo, his son Hu Hung and Chang Shih, on the one hand, and Chu Hsi on the other.
