- Abstract
Concretisation of evaluation criteria for the calculation of the combustion efficiency The combustion efficiency χ is an essential factor in determining the heat release rate and the fire load density when applying the Eurocode fire protection verifications. However, a calculation method for determining χ has not yet been standardised. In this paper, recommendations are given regarding the choice of evaluation criteria for the calculation of combustion efficiency. For this purpose, laboratory‐scale and real‐scale fire tests were carried out at the Institute for Building Materials, Solid Construction and Fire Protection (iBMB) at the Technische Universität Braunschweig. The objects tested were everyday objects and commercially available floor coverings. The eight criteria most frequently used in practice were used for the evaluation of the experimental investigations. The differences between the evaluation criteria lie in the temporal relationships of their input parameters. In addition, the combustion efficiency was formed from the mean values of several criteria. It was shown that possible outlier values can be captured by averaging. The criterion fuel load also proved to be very robust. The results were compiled in a table with recommendations regarding the selection of evaluation criteria and methods.
