- Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of cabbage seed lots with high and low viability under salinity. The viability of the lots was evaluated by the tetrazolium test, being characterized as lot 1 - high viability, and lot 2 - low viability. The seeds were subjected to two salt, NaCl and KCl, at different osmotic potentials: 0.0 (control), -0.2 , -0.4, -0.6 , -0.8 and -1.0 MPa. Sowing was done in Petri dishes containing two blotter paper germitest, maintained in BOD germination incubator adjusted to 25 °C. The characteristics evaluated were: germination, speed germination index, fresh weight, dry weight, shoot length and root seedling. Increasing the salt concentration reduce germination and affect negatively the seed vigor of cabbage both lots; KCl is the most aggressive, affecting germination and seedling development in lower concentrations than NaCl for the two lots. The cabbage seeds with high viability have lower sensitivity to salt stress.
