- Abstract
The article deals historically with diagnostic procedures that claimed to determine the developmental status of children during the enrolment phase at the beginning of their school career. The focus is on the diagnostically generated knowledge about children, its content as well as its functions including their changes in the diachronic course. For this purpose, diagnostic procedures are analysed whose publication falls into a period (1920 – 1960) that precedes the boom of school enrolment tests in the 1970s. These are reflected upon with regard to their power of expert opinion.
