Matless, David
- Abstract
The article focuses on the philosophy and occupational commitment of author and city planner Patrick Abercrombie. Abercrombie remarkably examines the significance and application of Chinese environmental philosophy of Feng Shui in city planning, and his interest in the Belgian modernist poet Emile Verhaeren. His main concern is the ecological themes of energy and order as well as the relation between environmental thought and modernism and the significance of Feng Shui to landscape preservation, planning and design. He clearly devotes his time in establishing ways in maintaining town and country as distinct but complementary elements in a regional scheme of things.
