- Abstract
The article discusses the state of neighborhood public schools in the post-Katrina era in New Orleans, Louisiana. The nature of a grassroots movement involving several local organizations seeking to improve the condition of public schools in the 9th Ward is examined. The impact of collective storytelling practices is recounted. How various public arts projects, films, books, and community-organizing campaigns enabled these grassroots organizers to involve a large sector of disadvantaged students and families in their programs is discussed.
