- Abstract
Lichen ruber verrucosus et reticularis and lichen ruber moniliformis described by researcher M. Kaposi have often been discussed and quoted together. A review of the cases reported, however, suggests that these are two unrelated conditions. Lichen ruber moniliformis was described in 1986 and was applied by Kaposi to the skin condition of a 45-year old man which persisted for 15 years and consisted of waxy papubs, nodules and hypertrophic keloid like lesions forming parallel ridges resembling strings of pearls or coral beads. In 1895, under the term lichen ruber verucosus et reticularis, Kaposi described the case of a 29-year-old woman with a purplish lichenoid eruption of the face and extremities of 10 years duration.
