- Abstract
Although metformin is the established first-line treatment option for type 2 diabetes mellitus, there is no general consensus regarding which treatment to use following the failure of metformin. The combination of metformin + the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog liraglutide + basal insulin detemir produced significant improvement in glycemic control compared with metformin + liraglutide, with no weight gain and very low rates of hypoglycemia.
