- Abstract
The article explores the feminist historiography of scholar Bettina Bradbury. The author reflects on the publication of books by Bradbury which include "Working Families: Age, Gender, and Daily Survival in Industrializing Montreal" and "Wife to Widow: Lives, Laws, and Politics in 19th-Century Montreal." Emphasis is given to the history of prostitution in relation to household economy, brothels in Montreal, Quebec, and the economic independence of Canadian women. Other topics include the retail sale of alcoholic beverages, women holding tavern licenses, and the drinking habits of women.
