- Title
How Learning Works: Applications for Childbirth Educators.
- Authors
Stadtlander, Lee
- Abstract
Understanding student learning requires consideration of how learning takes place. Students build mental connections with information that is learned; the connections are influenced by their experiences, emotions, beliefs, and through the context of the course. As an instructor, you can aid the process of learning by providing a positive learning environment and providing a structure to help students organize the material. Structures for learning include creating agendas and handouts that explicitly link information, asking questions that help students see relationships between new and old information, and allowing students to visualize themselves in examples.
