- Abstract
International trade plays an important role in Polish sugar industry. Between 2000 and 2017, the volume of sugar exports oscillated between 350 and 700 thousand tons. The average value of exports during the monitored period recorded an annual increase of 5.3%. The value of exports increased from about EUR 100 million to approximately EUR 240 million during the period under review. The trade performance was accompanied by significant oscillations; the minimum export value was about EUR 51 million in 2002 and the maximum of EUR 377 million was recorded in 2012. The presented material provides an overview of the distribution of comparative advantages from the point of view of bilateral trade and also from the point of view of export specialization and trade territorial concentration. The results prove that Poland has significant comparative advantages both in relation to the EU countries (the most important export and import destinations) and in relation to many socalled "third countries". A positive feature in this respect is Poland's ability to maintain a relatively high share of trade and comparative advantages in relation to many non-EU countries. A negative feature is the relatively high degree of territorial concentration, both in the case of exports and especially in the case of imports.
