The article offers information on the economic events in Canada in January 2008. Banks shore up their capital base, while the federal government and the U.S. lower interest rates. Bank of Canada reduced its interest rate a quarter point to 4%. The U.S. government increased the guaranteed secondary market loans' cap to $625,000 to $417,000.
