- Abstract
This study aimed to determine the difficulties in preparing items for measuring high-level thinking skills in the context of reading skills and offering solutions to these difficulties for Turkish language teachers. 80 Turkish language teachers working in Tokat participated in the research conducted in the case study design, one of the qualitative research methods. The teachers' responses were collected with a semi-structured interview form. The teachers' views were presented by categorizing them with content analysis, and the teachers' perceptions towards the items about the measurement of high-level thinking skills and the process of preparing the items were evaluated. As a result of the research, it was determined that the teachers could not define the items for the measurement of high-level thinking skills, called "skill-based items" by the Ministry of National Education, and the characteristics of the items were introduced. A text selection checklist was created to eliminate the teachers' incomplete/wrong perceptions about the texts that they would choose while preparing the items. Reading comprehension taxonomy was presented by the researchers regarding the preparation of items to eliminate the deficient/wrong perceptions of the teachers in the process of preparing items for the measurement of high-level thinking skills.
