- Abstract
Teaching the concepts in the chemical balance unit through traditional approaches has been difficult because they are abstract and students cannot make a connection between their symbolic, macro, and micro dimensions. Another problem is the limited number of materials appropriate to teach such abstract concepts. Constructivist method is based on students' daily life experiences. The use of computer technologies in the solution to the problems faced in teaching abstract concepts, developing computer aided teaching (CAT) materials enriched with examples from daily life that would make abstract concepts concrete and would make it easier for students to learn In this study, the aim is to design an educative computer aided teaching material on "Speed and Balance in Reactions," which is within the 11th grade chemistry teaching program in secondary schools, based on the 5E learning model, make the pilot application of this material, and give it its final shape. The material, which was designed based on 5E learning model, was prepared by using ADDIE model. A pilot application was done with 12 high school students in order to update the software. The software got its final shape after the results of the pilot application and with the suggestions of experts.
